ANTI-DEATH-PENALTY & ANTI-TRAFFICKING IN PERSON

Defending the right to life and freedom for East Africans vulnerable to cross-border drug trafficking, wrongful prosecution, and death-row sentencing. We provide legal aid, advocate for clemency and repatriation, and push for systemic reforms that treat survivors with dignity and justice.

KUZA TRUST’s regional program focused on ending state violence in the form of the death penalty and combating cross-border drug-related human trafficking and exploitation especially of vulnerable women from East Africa.

Grounded in the principles of dignity, due process, and survivor justice, the initiative challenges punitive legal systems that disproportionately target the poor, women, and those forced into trafficking networks. It seeks to replace punishment with protection, and silence with advocacy.

Our work is driven by a bold belief: No one should face death or prolonged detention for circumstances rooted in poverty, deception, or coercion.

Through this initiative, KUZA TRUST:

  • Provides rapid legal response to East Africans especially women facing death row sentences for Trafficked Drug Couriers abroad, with a focus on identifying trafficking indicators (deception, debt bondage, withheld passports).
  • Advocates for clemency, humane sentencing, and repatriation through bilateral diplomacy, judicial engagement, and strategic litigation.
  • Strengthens domestic legal frameworks by promoting alternatives to capital punishment, supporting Trafficked Drug Couriers survivors, and challenging unjust sentencing practices.
  • Builds regional solidarity across East Africa to reform harsh drug laws, combat modern-day slavery, and uphold the rights of accused persons in foreign jurisdictions.
  • Supports survivor-centered reintegration, providing psychosocial support, economic empowerment, and legal redress for women returning home after incarceration or exploitation.

We combine legal action, regional advocacy, international diplomacy, and public education to shift the paradigm from punitive to protective, from silence to justice.

Life is not a privilege. Liberty is not a reward. They are rights. And we will fight for them.
